Longshore Worker
What the job is like
Longshoremen or longshore workers, as they are called now, load and unload cargo from ships or onto ships utilizing equipment such as industrial trucks and tractors, winches, mechanical towers, hoses, or other types, depending on the cargo.
Essential skills or attributes
- Beginner Computer Skills (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint)
- Basic Math Skills (Addition, Subtraction, Division, Multiplication, Fractions, Percentages)
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of Federal, State and Local regulations and compliance
- Experience in the application of regulatory compliance
Usual required training
High School Diploma/ GED. Experience required varies by company. Industry related training varies by company.
