Position Title
Dispatcher
What the job is like
Dispatchers coordinate the trucks picking up and delivering inventory. They stay in touch with drivers on the road, by phone, two-way radio, or computer.
Dispatchers might advise on a route change or let the customer know the location of inventory and when it might arrive.
When the driver returns, the dispatcher will check the driver in and handle trip records and may also handle customer receipts.
Essential skills or attributes
- Beginner Computer Skills (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint)
- Basic Math Skills (Addition, Subtraction, Division, Multiplication, Fractions, Percentages)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and business etiquette (customer service)
- Basic knowledge of transportation rules and regulations
- Knowledge of Federal, State and Local regulations and compliance
- Experience in the application of regulatory compliance
- Production and Resource Scheduling
- Negotiation skills
Usual required training
High School Diploma/ GED. Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) may be required.
Experience required varies by company. Industry related training varies by company.
