Position Title
Hazardous Materials Coordinator
What the job is like
In this job, you will ensure all areas of the company are in compliance with federal regulations.
This means reading and keeping up with those regulations, interpreting, training, and implementing precautions or processes, especially rules governing transport of hazardous materials.
Duties include:
- Manage hazardous materials in compliance with regulations;
- Oversee proper labeling of hazardous materials;
- Coordinate proper storage of hazardous materials;
- Complete paperwork required for transporting hazardous materials;
- Monitor employees’ handling of hazardous materials
- Conduct employee safety and health training;
- Maintain OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Act), EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), and DOT (Department of Transportation) records/documentation;
- Manage Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS);
- Coordinate emergency response plans;
- Maintain professional certifications.
Essential skills or attributes
- Beginner Computer Skills (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint)
- Basic Math Skills (Addition, Subtraction, Division, Multiplication, Fractions, Percentages)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and business etiquette (customer service)
- Basic knowledge of transportation rules and regulations
- Knowledge of Federal, State and Local regulations and compliance
- Experience in the application of regulatory compliance
- Coaching and Training
- Ability to read and interpret industry related reports and data
Usual required training
High School/GED. Bachelors Degree, Associate’s Degree or some college may be required.
Experience required varies by company. Industry related training and certification required.
