Environmental Manager

What the job is like

This position tracks a company’s compliance with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations.

It involves office as well as field work since hazardous products and byproducts that may harm the environment eventually end up outdoors. This job gives meaningful work to those who are interested in protecting our environment. 

Duites vay but may include:
- Maintain Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) records/documentation;
- Manage hazardous materials and hazardous waste;
- Plan, implement and conduct programs to train managers and employees about compliance;
- Assess and audit facilities to detect existing or potential violations;
- Determine preventative measures;
- Track trend statistics;
- Conduct accident investigations;
- Maintain professional certification;
- Track laws and regulations that may affect the organization’s policies or practices;
- Apply local, state and federal regulations;
- Maintain and interpret material safety data sheets (MSDS).

Essential skills or attributes

  • Beginner Computer Skills (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint)
  • Basic Math Skills (Addition, Subtraction, Division, Multiplication, Fractions, Percentages)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and business etiquette (customer service)
  • Basic knowledge of transportation rules and regulations
  • Knowledge of Federal, State and Local regulations and compliance
  • Experience in the application of regulatory compliance
  • Coaching and Training
  • Ability to read and interpret industry related reports and data

Usual required training

High School Diploma/GED. Bachelors Degree or some college may be required.
