Claims Administrator
What the job is like
Claims administrators represent their companies in the evaluation, assessment and negotiation of a claim.
Accuracy and good customer service are primary assets of the claims administrator.
In this role, duties may include:
- Research and document freight cargo claims;
- Negotiate with shipper and/or carrier to reach claim resolution;
- Assess dollar value to claim;
- Develop/maintain claim statistics, whether shipper or carrier;
- Supervise overage, shortage, and damage clerk;
- Make arrangements with cargo insurer.
Essential skills or attributes
- Intermediate Computer Skills (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint)
- Intermediate Math Skills (Algebra, Statistics, Geometry)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and business etiquette (customer service)
- Basic knowledge of transportation rules and regulations
- Understanding of warehouse strategies and processes
- Negotiation skills
Usual required training
High School Diploma/GED. Bachelors Degree or some college may be required.
Experience required varies by company. Industry related training requirements vary by company.
