Inventory Manager

What the job is like

Inventory managers are responsible for all phases of material and supply distribution.

In business, time equals money, and an inventory manager can save an organization both time and money by instituting the most efficient processes possible.

Some of the duties may include: oversee inventory systems and processes for location and/or company; manage and develop inventory department personnel and assess and audit inventory on an ongoing basis.

This position also interface with operations and vendors to ensure proper flow of merchandise throughout organization and identify opportunities to improve inventory alignment and cost control.

Essential skills or attributes

  • Advanced Computer Skills (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint)
  • Experience with Warehouse Management Systems
  • Intermediate Math Skills (Algebra, Statistics, Geometry)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and business etiquette (customer service)
  • Understanding of supply chain strategies and processes
  • Understanding of supply chain and warehouse theory
  • Knowledge of Federal, State and Local regulations and compliance
  • Experience in the application of regulatory compliance
  • Production and Resource Scheduling
  • Labor Management
  • Coaching and Training
  • Experience in budgets
  • Experience in staff supervision and management
  • Ability to read and interpret industry related reports and data
  • Project management experience

Usual required training

High School Diploma/GED.  Some college, Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree preferred by many companies.

Experience required varies by company. Industry related training may be required.
