Shipping Clerk
What the job is like
Shipping clerks rate and route outbound packages; prepare packaging for shipment; stage package for common courier transportation.
They work near the loading dock preparing inventory for shipping.
The job involves knowledge of the best way to prepare product for the journey, including wrapping palletized goods, labeling, and routing.
Essential skills or attributes
- Beginner Computer Skills (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint)
- Basic Math Skills (Addition, Subtraction, Division, Multiplication, Fractions, Percentages)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and business etiquette (customer service)
- Basic knowledge of transportation rules and regulations
- Knowledge of Federal, State and Local regulations and compliance
- Experience in the application of regulatory compliance
- Production and resource scheduling
- Ability to read and interpret industry related reports and data
- Negotiation skills
Usual required training
High School Diploma/GED. Some companies require industry training and/or experience.
